Is tap water bad for you?

Hi, Is too much tap water bad for you, or is it better to buy water ? Thank you, Pam

Our expert says...

Hi Pam

Thanks for your query.

Rest assured that tap water is good for you and of the highest quality throughout all of the UK.  It’s also much, much cheaper than bottled water and is a more environmentally friendly option, so personally I’d recommend this as your drink of choice every time!

Of course if you really prefer the taste of mineral water, there’s no harm in treating yourself occasionally, and sparkling bottled water makes a nice change from the still variety as a calorie-free alternative to fizzy soft drinks.

A few mineral waters can contain quite good amounts of calcium and magnesium minerals, whilst one or two can be higher in sodium (salt) than is healthy, so it's a good idea to compare  the labels on a couple of brands before buying.
