Hi Angela, I have just recently been told I may have angina, I would like some advice on what not to eat. I Have to admit, I have not taken my diet seriously. Patsy

Hi Patsy

The good news is that just by losing weight you’ll be reducing your risk of heart disease. But some other steps you can take are to reduce your intake of saturated fats, which are the type found largely in animal and processed foods like sausages, bacon, pastries and butter. These  can raise cholesterol and clog arteries.

Saturated fats are found mostly in animal sources such as sausages, cream, butter etc, so I’m assuming you are naturally cutting down on these to reduce calories any way!

You could also try using cholesterol-reducing products such as Benecol, Flora proactive and Optivita.

It’s also a good idea to reduce your salt intake as this raises blood pressure.

Check labels and make sure you don't have more than 6g a day
