Is there any reason why eating bread can slow weight loss

Hi I've been doing this for a few weeks now and am finding on the weeks I eat less bread I lose more weight. I only eat wholemeal bread and always enter it in the diary. I wondered if there was any reason for this as surely calories are calories wherever they come from? Thanks Shirl

Thanks for your query.

Yes essentially calories are calories, so it may be that this is just a chance finding. But if less bread seems to work for you, then I'd stick with it even if you're only getting a physical manifestation of a psychological benefit (i.e. the mind over matter / placebo effect which can be very powerful and have actual physical benefits).

However there is some evidence that lower GI (slower releasing) / higher protein diets may provide slightly more successful weight loss for the same calorie count, so it might be better to swap to grainy breads with whole grains and seeds in them,  which release more slowly .Team with plenty of lean meat and fish in your diet and hopefully you should get going again. Of course if you do want to cut out bread, that is fine too, just be sure to have other no wheat carb sources like pulses, oats, brown rice etc.
