What calories would I burn with Thai Chi done at home?

Hi, I suffer from fibromyalgia which causes me a lot of pain. However, I do try to do some sort of exercise every day no matter how little and I have just started Thai chi at home with a friend. How many calories does this burn up if any?

Our expert says...

Hi,

Firstly well done for staying active and Thai Chi is a great choice for working with fibromyalgia. In a class situation an hour of Thai Chi would burn in the region of 236-255 so the calorie figure for your home version will obviously depend on a number of factors including duration, intensity and quality of movement.

To play safe you may want to simply use a general figure of around 220 for an hour, on the presumption that generally home-guided workouts can be slightly less in terms of demand than class situations (with teacher guidance and motivation).

Hope this helps

Kelly
