What's the best foods to eat for an iron deficiency?

Hi there,

I was just wondering if you could tell me what food would be best to eat to get the most iron but with low calories?

Thanks

Amy

Hi Amy

Thanks for your query. Good iron sources with reasonably low, or very low calorie include extra lean and well trimmed steak, kidney beans, fortified breakfast cereals, sardines in tomato sauce, figs, watercress, spinach, other greens and Bovril.

Finally, you can also get some iron into your diet from using an uncoated cast iron pan, so it could be worth thinking about what cooking utensils you use!
