Q.

Are avocados good for you?

I have just joined and started to fill in my lunch for today which quite often consists of mixed salad, tomato, cucumber and mackerel. I was also going to add an avocado to this but when i entered it it took my fat levels sky high, and the calories weren't great either. Is it my misconception that these foods are good for you and the fat is 'good' fat?

A.

Our expert says...

No it's not a misconception - avocados are crammed with monounsaturated fats and mackerel with omega-3s fats, both of which are extremely good for your heart, brain, skin, hormones etc. Unfortunately you can't have fat without calories, so this meal. though very healthy, should be still eaten in moderation. I?d suggest one to two times a week - the rest of the time you can stick to lower fat choices.
