Are there foods I should avoid. My blood pressure is high..

I went to the Dr and just out of interest I asked her to check my blood pressure as I was feeling light headed and it was 140/90 which is high but she wasn't too concerned. I do not add salt to my food and I do not smoke and tend to walk everywhere. Any tips food wise?

As you know, high blood pressure can be made worse worse by high salt food, and Food Standards Agency advice is to check labels and to eat no more than 6g of salt a day. You don?t add it to your food, but do check labels and cut down on hidden salt sources which include ready meals, soups and sauces, bacon, sausages and pizzas (hopefully you?ll be cutting down on a lot of these any way!). Getting plenty of potassium in your diet (from fruits, vegetables, nuts, skimmed dairy products etc.) is also important to regulate water levels and help keep blood pressure normal. Blood pressure has a big genetic component too, so food may only make a small difference. Just make sure you get your blood pressure checked regularly and follow medical advice.
