Q.

Do I need to use all my cals?

Hi, I'm new to this site, sometimes I am not hungry & find it hard to use my cals which have been allocated via my diary (1700). Do I need to eat all my cals? can I incoporate my treats i.e. choc? every day? Also I find if I leave off the bread & baked potatoes I do lose weight, but these are my favourite foods! Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks Carol

Our expert says...

HI Carol

Thanks for your query and I hope you are enjoying the site. You’ve been allocated 1700 calories a day based on the information you gave us and the goal weight you want to achieve, But it’s a target to stay under rather an something you have to reach every day, so if you aren’t hungry, don’t worry about not reaching your goal. That said, you should always aim to eat 1200 calories a day though, to keep your metabolism ticking over and ensure you have a nutritionally diverse enough diet. It’s also fine to incorporate treats every day, and in fact we encourage this (in moderation!) to keep you interested and on track. Leaving out bread and potatoes isn’t necessary either - these foods are only a problem if they take you above your daily calorie allowance. In  fact bread and potato belong to the important carbs group that the body uses as it’s preferred energy source, so I wouldn't recommend removing them from your diet.

I wish you very good luck!
