CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH FAT IS NOT GOOD FOR ME THE NORMAL FAT OR THE SATURAITED FAT THANK YOU PETEL 123

A.

Our expert says...

Hi Petel123  You are right to ask which fats are the good ones, as there are several different types, which I like to call the good, the bad and the ugly!  The 'bad' are saturated fats (found in butter and cheese), which can lead to cardiovascular disease. The 'ugly' are trans-fats that are found in fried and processed foods and bakery products. They are used to prolong a product's shelf-life.  You should check product labels carefully and avoid these types of fat if possible.

The 'good' fats, which you are asking about, are essential fats that our bodies cannot make, so we need to eat them in our diet. These are called Omega 3 and 6 and are found in seeds, nuts, oily fish (salmon, fresh tuna) and vegetable oils. So, a good snack to provide some of these would be a handful of pumpkin or sunflower seeds, maybe eaten with some fresh fruit.  I hope this helps.
