Q.

Is 50-60minutes on the lateral thigh trainer enough?

Hello,

I have joined nutracheck this week. I do 50-60mins each day on a lateral thigh trainer burning around 600 calories, is that enough? I have about 6lbs to lose. I eat approx 1200 calories a day.

Hi,

firstly, welcome to Nutracheck and thanks for utilsing our support forum! I wonder if you have a lateral thigh trainer which tells you the calories you burn and that is where you have calculated the 600 calories an hour from? As you are doing it daily it makes me think that you are either accustomed to it (i.e. been doing this routine for a while and therefore find it very managable) or have recently started doing this and so are currently very motivated and commited to your lateral trainer workout.

If im close with the first assumption, then you definately won't be burning 600 calories an hour anymore and should consider reducing the figure you use to something like 360-440. The accuracy of the lateral thigh trainer calorie calculation is flawed as it can't account for factors like weight and personal fitness level. If it is the latter assumption that most apllies to you and you haven't been doing it long then go with 420-540 calories and try and add variety to your weekly exercise plan to prevent repetitive stress (overuse) injuries in the future and prevent your body from accustomising to your lateral thigh trainer.

With regards to the above and your current calorie intake, if you are exercising every day and burning 400-600 calories then you should be doing enough to create a daily calorie deficit and real long-term weight loss, just make sure you consume enough to recover from your training, in the form of healthy nutritional choices. If your exercise is effective enough and your nutrition stays stable then you should get approximately 1.5lb weight loss a week (allowing for a smooth downwards curve, often with a series of stops and starts) and this will show you the balance is right. If you find this isn't happening then you may not be burning enough calories through your exercise to take away from what you are consuming so consier exercise variety and intensity to make the difference.

Just listen to your body on a daily and weekly basis and you can adjust your exercise and nutrition accordingly to keep the results you want coming. I hope this helps.
