Q.
Sugar and diabetes risk
Hi Janet, I am sticking to my with loss target but know I eat more sugar than is recommended. Does this put me at risk of developing diabetes?
A.
Our expert says...
Hi there,
There is no proven link between sugar intake and a higher risk of developing diabetes, however we do know that being overweight or obese does increase the risk. If you are sticking within your calorie allowance, and losing weight this is a postitive step towards reducing your risk of diabetes. If you can find ways to reduce your sugar intake then it's worth doing because this will help you to acheive a healthier and more balanced diet, which will support your long term weight loss goals.
Best wishes
Janet
