Baking

I am an avid baker and often make cupcakes and cookies for my friends and family. Can you let me know which is the healthiest option when it comes to the "fat" part of a recipe? I usually use Stork but was shocked with the amount of fat in it.

Hi

Thanks for your query.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to cook with a low fat margarine or spread – you’ll need to use one that is at least 59 per cent fat. Beyond that the choice is yours, but from a health perspective it is a good idea to use a spread that is either high in monounsaturates or polyunsaturates (I prefer monounsaturates) and not so high in saturates.

Stork margarine is actually 70 per cent fat, but some 59 per cent fat margarines that fit the bill are Flora, Pure or Vitalite margarine.

I hope this helps!
