How much X-trainer should I do to benefit?

Hiya, Just wondering if I was going to start using my cross trainer again, how long do I need to stay on it and how many days a week to feel the benefit. p.s it is very boring.

Our expert says...

Hi,

The reality is that 5minutes on it once a week is more beneficial then none at all but for specific fitness improvements and to support weight loss goals you should aim to be on it at least 2-3 times a week, or even every other day / everyday depending on time / ability. If you haven’t exercised for a while then simply start off with a workout time frame you are capable of. Even 5minutes is effective as the consistency of workouts per week is more important than blasting out a big workout time and then not doing it again for days/weeks.

If you are only on it for a relatively short time (like 5-15minutes) you could try using simply distraction such as music or TV. You could for example, aim to use the X-trainer during a certain program you always watch for. A more interesting option to consider once you get a little bit more use to the X-trainer is working at a certain speed / resistance for 2 minutes and then upping the speed (or resistance depending on which you have chosen for a given workout) for 1 minute. This 2:1 ratio is then repeated for your chosen duration. This variation means you have focused short periods of time where you challenge yourself slightly more and having to make changes at the right time means the time flies a lot quicker and its much more of an interesting workout.

Hope this helps,

Kelly
